Muitos anos se passaram desde que a humanidade foi levada à beira da extinção pelo surgimento repentino das formas de vida desconhecidas, Gadoll. Os humanos que sobreviveram agora vivem em uma fortaleza móvel de 3000 metros de altura construída para se proteger da ameaça dessas criaturas. Um dia, Natsume, uma garota-tanker, que sonha em se tornar uma Gear, conhece Kaburagi, um homem ranzinza reparador de armaduras em Deca-Dence. Esse encontro casual entre os aparentemente opostos.
